Samsung NB30 Review

If you’re looking for a netbook to survive perpetual usage, and maybe a few knocks here and there, Samsung NB30 is probably the right one for you. But at the same time it has some disadvantages in the form of poor battery life and performance. Lets look at the pros and cons of this Samsung product in more depth:

PROS:

DESIGN
This 2.8-pounds and 10.4 x 7.4 x 1.1 inches netbook has a semi-rugged outer look. It’s ridges that flow in wavy curves gives it a classy look despite is semi-rugedness, and also provides with an simple to grip surface. To add to that, the surface is also scratch resistant. Another wonderful feature of this netbook is it’s hard drive protection feature from minor falls. When a drop is detected, the netbook parks off the head of the hard drive to protect hurt.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD
With keys stretching from one edge to the other, there is ample space between the keys, hence delivering a excellent typing experience. Another fantastic aspect is the spill-resistant keyboard. Samsung says the NB30 can withstand up to 1.7 ounces) of liquid if it’s removed within 10 seconds. The touchpad is also honestly large and allowed for smooth navigation.

SHOW AND AUDIO
The 1024 x 600 LED-backlit show offers bright colors and deep blacks. The audio quality is fantastic on this Samsung, as is usually a case with Samsung. Though the speakers are tucked under the front lid, it doesn’t fail to impress.

CONS:

MOUSEBAR:
The small and narrow mouse bar is really a nuisance. Not only is it cramped, but also very close to the touchpad. Hence resulting in fingers slipping over to the touchpad.

BATTERY LIFE
With a average of about 6 hours, the battery life is not fantastic. This will allow moderate usage to last the day, but if you plot to use your netbook incessantly throughout the day, you will need to keep the power chord plugged-in.

PERFORMANCE
The performance is another disappointment, as it falls shorter than its competitors. Also, when multiple programs are running, the NB30 seems to struggle, and experience time lags and latency issues.

MISCELLANEOUS
Another small issue with the N30 is that the SD card sticks out about half an inch when plugged in. Also the show angles are a disappointment. If the screen is pushed back, or looked at from the sides, the colours appear distorted

Hence if you are looking for a budget laptop, that will handle the basic stuff well, then the N30 is a decent choice. Also especially if you travel a lot, this semi-rugged laptop will be a bonus. But if you are looking for above average performance, and you use your laptop for large parts of the day, then the N30 isn’t what you need.
