DESIGN & WEIGHT
This netbook has a relatively simple design, with a glossy black interior and exterior. Probably its greatest feature is it extremely light weight At 2.6 pounds, it is lighter than the other 10-inch netbooks. Another small detail, which is very convenient, is a small switch on the left side of the notebook

PERFORMANCE
With 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Starter Edition this netbook maintains a high performance. Its performance is one of the best in its league, and probably its greatest advantage.

BATTERY LIFE
With a battery life of about 8-9 hours, the U160 is certainly one the best in the netbook league. The average for netbooks is considered 6 hours, hence clearly its battery life is extremely excellent.

HEAT
The U160 also operates at cooler temperatures than most of the netbooks in the same league.

TOUCHPAD
It has a large enough touch pad for simple navigation, and even the touch button is pretty simple to press.

SHOW AND SOUND
It has a 10-inch show (1024 x 600), which displays a decent picture quality with excellent contrast. Even the speakers produc excellent sound quality.

GRAPHICS
With an integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphcis card, the U160 comes with pretty reasonable graphics. The graphics isn’t mindblowing or anything, but compared to the other netbooks in the 10 inch category, the U160 has better graphics.

CONS

KEYBOARD
It has an island style keyboard which is pretty sturdy. But some keys, such as the shift key is undersized, making the typing experience a bit disappointing.

WEB CAM
To get the 1.3 mega pixel web cam one needs to press Fn + F6 to get it to work. It’s a small but annoying aspect of this netbook.

BATTERY
Though it is extremely light, it appears weird and bulky due to the six cell battery protruding from the back. MSI could surely have done a better job of it.

Hence the U160 is certainly giving a its competitors a stiff competition. It has some flaws in the ergonomics department (keyboard and the battery jutting out), but if that doesn’t matter a lot to you, then the U160, with its high performance, higher battery life and light weight, is surely something you should consider

MSI Wind U115 Hybrid
Proving that all netbooks aren’t the same, the Wind U115 Hybrid’s design incorporates both a solid-state and hard disk drive, as well as a graphics chip that can help speed up high-definition video decoding. But this divergence from the netbook norm doesn’t come cheaply.

Design and usability
The U115 looks pretty much identical to the original MSI Wind. Although the glossy end on the lid still looks classy, the U115′s overall design is beginning to look rather tired when compared to that of newer models from companies like Asus and Samsung. Nevertheless, the 10-inch, 1,024×600-pixel screen is bright and simple to read — even outdoors, thanks to its matte end. The keyboard is also relatively roomy for a netbook of this size, but the trackpad is rather cramped.

Connectivity
The U115 doesn’t break any netbook taboos when it comes to its range of connectivity options. Alongside both wireless-n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, there are also three USB ports for connecting peripherals like hard drives and 3G modem sticks (this netbook doesn’t have built-in 3G). An Ethernet socket is also included, along with a VGA port for hooking it up to an external monitor or flat-screen TV.

Performance and battery life
The U115 certainly doesn’t follow the herd in terms of its underlying hardware. It uses an Atom Z530 clocked at 1.6GHz, but this is tied to Intel’s GMA 500 GPU, which can speed up decoding of certain video formats as long as the software player you’re using supports the new chip’s capabilities. Furthermore, the machine has two drives. One is a traditional 160GB hard drive, while the other is a smaller but less battery-hungry 8GB SSD model. There’s even a button on the front that lets you switch off the hard drive and only run the netbook from the SSD, so that you can eke out as much battery life as possible. The results are stunning — the U155 managed to keep running for a whopping 7 hours and 9 minutes in Battery Eater’s Classic test.

Should I buy it?
It’s not the prettiest netbook on the block and it’s quite expensive, but, if you need exceptional battery life, there’s no doubt that the U115 is head and shoulders above most of the competition.
